      The best Chardonnay from the family’s vineyards is used to make this vintage Trentodoc; it is the wine that best summarizes the art of Ferrari. The phrasing of its taste is highly elegant, with a crescendoing finish. The perlage is extremely fine and persistent. At the nose its aromatic richness of extraordinary expressiveness: the scene is dominated by hints of Reinette apples and citrus fruits, accompanied by white peach, almond blossom and toast-like notes. The taste is elegant and harmonious, with the unmistakable fruity, aromatic sensations that are typical of Chardonnay. These are followed by a slightly almondy finish of great persistence, the result of long ageing on the yeasts.

      This is one of few white wines from Valtellina. Nebbiolo is mixed with Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Incrocio Manzoni (which has Riesling as one of its parents). The mix creates a very interesting wine. Light yellow, almost greenish. Gooseberries, melon and oak to the nose. Fresh, kind of fruity on the attack. Gooseberries, melon, spiciness and oak to the palate. Long fruity and remarkably fresh finish. This is one of those wines that manages to combine the softness of oak while still having good acidity.

      The nose of this wine is so complex and inviting a complex blend of spice and herb from 50% Sauvignon Blanc and 50% the indigenous variety Timorasso that shows lots of grit, earth, apple skin. On the palate this wine is vibrantly focused around a superb acidity that is enveloped in a richly textured mid-palate full of spiced apple, freshly cut hay with all sorts of baking spice for this unoaked wine. The finish is incredibly long, vivacious, and carries through the same flavors to a crescendo, an absurdly good food wine.

Straw yellow color with greenish tints and intensely crystalline. Sergio and Patrizia Degiorgis run this small 20-acre property. Most of the vineyards are planted with Moscato d’Asti. The focus is on a well-managed vineyard and low yield production where the quality of the grapes is fundamental to produce good quality wines.     • Faro Rosso Bonavita, Sicilia 2016
      The Faro denominazione sits in one of Sicily’s prettiest countryside, located at the extreme north-eastern tip of Sicily separated from Calabria and the Italian mainland by the Messina strait. If Faro and its wines are starting to garner interest, a lot of the merit must go to small quality estates like this one. Bonavita is run by Giovanni Scarfone and his father Carmelo, with the aid of consultant Vincenzo Angileri. Bonavita’s north-exposed vineyards look out towards the Tyrrhenian Sea, differently from Le Casematte and other Faro estates that look towards the Ionian sea and whose vineyards have mainly south/southeastern exposures. At Bonavita, there is a mix of mainly sandy tufa or clay-calcareous soils, and the area is quite rainy and very windy compared to other parts of Sicily. Bonavita owns 2.5 hectares planted to Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Nocera."

    • Carignano del Sulcis “Nero Miniera” Esu, Sardegna 2017
      This wine is a great discovery for each wine lover. I tasted a small selection and directly becomes clear that this wine is one of those magical treasures of Italian viticulture. The variety is Carignano. It offers aromas with cinnamon and clove and a wealth of fruit, plums, very abundant subtle fruit, hints of herbs and all with a little inch of minerality and such length! The wine is intense, fresh, and the present tannins do not disturb. This wonderful wine comes from what is probably Europe’s largest concentration of engrafted pre-Phylloxera vines on the sands of Sulcis. Carignano del Sulcis DOC is produced only in southwest Sardinia and on two local islands, San Pietro and Sant’Antioco. Where Carignan in France is mostly a grape used for blends and is considered of modest importance, here, in the warm sunny fields of Sardinia’s southwest this grape offers wines with great potential.

      Grifalco is an excellent producer of Aglianico del Vulture owned by the Piccin family, who were originally wine producers in Tuscany but decided that southern Italy, Basilicata in particular, was more promising. I think they're right. Vulture is indisputably one of the best appellations in southern Italy, and I am delighted to represent this excellent producer Sourcing grapes from four different vineyards, Grifalco is the flagship wine of the estate, representing in their minds what Aglianico del Vulture should be and is capable of. Notes of blackberry, black cherry, licorice, and wild herbs. Well-balanced, with firm, sweet tannins and juicy acidity.

      The Gelso D'Oro is a converted wine in purity by pressing the only native grape Uva di Troia, among the oldest of the Apulian tradition. The harvesting is done by hand, early in the day to maintain low temperatures of the grapes, and to prevent the onset of fermentation. After malolactic fermentation, it is left to mature for the most part in oak barrels for eight months, then bottle aging gives the 'final harmony and the wide pleasantness. Deep ruby red, has aromas of black berry fruit with cocoa successive tones, cinnamon, cumin and juniper. In the mouth, it is enveloping, full-bodied tannic, with softened and velvety tones and balanced and long finish.

      The 2016 vintage was expressive and elegant. Rain in early September held off harvest, giving the fruit important time on the vine. the wines produced are deep in color with vibrant acidity and precise aromatics. Floral tones of violet and lavender dominate the aromas, followed by blueberries and vanilla bean. The palate is framed by bright acidity with a dense layered center.
