Tap Beer
The Usual Suspects
- Stella Artois - Leuven, Belgium - 4.8%abv$8.5 - Pot; $15 - Pint: Originally brewed as a Christmas beer in 1926, the Artois brewery has roots dating back to 1366. Clear, pale golden in colour with a fine, clean bitterness and a hint of citric fruitiness. This really is the classic Belgian lager.
- Hoegaarden Witbier - Hoegaarden, Belgium - 4.9%abv$10 - Pot; $18.5 - Pint: 500 years of hard work went into making this beer that features the aromas of orange peel, coriander, and herbs that the merry monks imported from sunny Curacao. Lots of banana, citrus and some clove with a little spice.
- Leffe Brune - Leuven, Belgium - 6.5%abv$13.5 - Pot; $22 - Pint: An authentic ‘Abbey Beer’, it is brewed with a high proportion of heavily roasted malts to provide its full-bodied, perfectly balanced flavour. It is slightly fruity, with a sweet yet bitter finish of coffee and dark fruits.
- Leffe Blonde - Leuven, Belgium - 6.6%abv$13.5 - Pot; $22 - Pint: Belgium’s original Abbey beer, with origins back to the abbey of Leffe in 1152. Leffe Blonde is a well-balanced full bodied, aromatic beer with delicate sweetness and light bitterness.
- Belle-Vue Kriek - Sint-Pieters-Leeuw, Belgium - 5.1%abv$18 - Pot: A style of Lambic (spontaneously fermented) beer with the aroma, taste and colour of sour cherries, and a sweetness to charm even the most hesitant of non-beer drinkers. Warning: can be highly addictive (wink!).
- 4 Pines Pale Ale - Manly, NSW - 5.1%abv$8 - Pot; $10.5 - Schooner; $14.5 - Pint: Cascade and Centennial hops give this beer a huge citrus-forward punch leaning towards fresh lemon and grapefruit zest, while the addition of Columbus hops adds a spicy, herbal complexity that compliments a drier finish leaving you wanting another pint.
- Carlton Draught - Abbotsford, VIC - 4.6%abv$6 - Pot; $8.5 - Schooner; $11 - Pint: Yep, Carlton Draught is on tap at the Belgian Beer Café. Australia’s biggest selling tap beer, best enjoyed while watching the footy. Or cricket in summer. Please don’t ask a Belgian to explain cricket.
