Storing and Keeping Biltong at Home
We love making biltong, droewors and chilli bites as much as we hope you do eating it. All our products are prepared and hand made by our team, so it’s important to us to make sure you enjoy it as much as we do making it.
- SpecialBiltong & DröeworsBiltong is a natural product, which needs to be stored in a natural way. The more moisture in food, the higher the probability that mould can occur, (no matter what preservatives some companies use). So please take extra care storing moist biltong or droewors. Our biltong and droewors hangs in a controlled environment until it is ready to be cut and packed. If you have bought multiple bags of biltong, (vacuum packed), keep the bags sealed and intact until you decide to eat it. But be aware that the wetter it is, the shorter the life. Once opened, put the biltong in an OPEN bowl or paper bag and mix it up a bit. Mix it up daily for a maximum of 4 to 6 days or until consumed. Most mould starts to happen when the biltong comes into contact with another ‘surface’. Moisture then forms at that surface contact point. The inevitable and unavoidable universal process then starts. You can also keep your biltong in a brown paper bag in the fridge, but mix it up daily.
