Need some new ideas & inspiration for plant-based meals or how to make your vegetables more exciting? You are in the right place! The Veggie Tree Cook Schools are hands on, informative classes that cover a wide range of skills and cuisines along with foraging classes, plant medicine workshops and making your own non toxic home and self care products. The cook schools have been running here in Kaeo for eight years and I have had over a thousand people attend. I am a trained chef and have been a vegetarian for 32 years, I draw on many years of eating, cooking and researching a plant-based diet to bring you these classes. Kids Classes are from Ages 4-12, the other classes are suitable for ages 12 and up.     To celebrate plastic free July here at The Veggie Tree we'll be sharing our tried and true recipes for making these all natural, non toxic products we every day. We love making our own self-care, healing and cleaning products out of natural ingredients and recyclable glass jars. Along with making less waste and no nasty or toxic ingredients added, it is very satisfying making your own products plus it saves you heaps of money in the long run. Together we will make Natures Laundry Liquid, the best All Purpose Spray, Homemade Deodorant with reusable tube, Whipped Body Butter, a Healing Salve and Self-care Rollerball Blend all to take home with you | $90 per person which includes take homes and recipe file of all above products, healthy snacks and drinks | Option to include your pre-teen/teenager to join in on the class and make their own, body butter, deodorant and self-care rollerball for an additional $45

I love to incorporate wild plants into my ferments, such a beautiful mutual beneficial relationship we can have with our environment.     It's no secret I absolutely love edible flowers and all the plant kingdom actually. As well as being totally beautiful and full of health benefits, edible flowers play a really important role in the home garden for attracting bees and other beneficial insects. Companion planting with edible flowers and herbs also helps to deter pests and you can make delicious kai with them to boot! In this workshop we will learn about edible flowers, what they taste like and benefits they have for health and garden and what to do with them. This is beginners introduction class to making sourdough bread we will cover kneading techniques, trouble shooting potential problems, different flours used for bread making and why, best keeping practises, uses for whey and easy cheese | $80 per person Includes food, drink, recipe file, hints, tips with cheese and bread take homes.     I do a lot of my foraging around my property as we have taken a no mow wild gardening approach, just letting the plants grow where they like. In this class we will forage for edible weeds here at The Veggie Tree HQ, but we will also venture out to my local beach to gather some seaweed treats and depending on the weather we will enjoy our kai out at the beach. In this workshop we will learn about edible weeds and seaweeds, what they taste like and benefits they have for health. How to pick, dry, store and use seaweeds.
